Australia Day at Chorillos

Couldnt think of a better way to enjoy Australia Day than down at the beach with a few beers - it seems that the whole of Lima responded to a rare sunny day the same way.
The dirty sand at Chorillos is packed solid, the rickety beachfront restaurants serving up everything available off the back of a boat. We went and sat on the edge of the beach with a beer and watched the ensuing fiesta atmosphere that comes with all Peruvian gatherings of some scale. The scene is a crazed cacophony, chaotic and on the brink of catastrophe with every surge of the Pacific - pushing seats, umbrellas and other belongings higher up the beach.
I really love this part of Lima. The beach meets the pier where fisherman continue to bring in their catches through the day to stock up heavily patronised "holes in the wall". Every colour in every form exists in close proximity to each other, vying for any small bit of space on the thin strip of beach. And of course beer stands and street sellers making sure you'll never want for anything...ever again.
Just another place to enjoy this wonderfully wacky mob and another favourite spot I will miss.

Enjoy
